The Light up Movement having risen from an advocacy/enlightenment campaign in Anyigba, condemn in strongest term attacks on the AEDC facilities in Lokoja.
The Light Up Movement condemn in strong terms the destruction of properties at the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Lokoja Area Office earlier today, Wednesday 10th by a group of protesters.
It is the right of the consumers to seek redress and demand for better service within the ambit of the law including peaceful protest.
The advocacy/sensitization tour which the Light Up Movement in collaboration with the AEDC embark on is to enlighten the public on channels through which consumers can have their complaints adequately addressed among others. To imagine that we would be engaging Ganaja Community on Wednesday (date) and today they are vandalising office infrastructures to drive home their demand, leaves us to wonder.
As a movement, we are aware of the so many power issues across Kogi State and not just Ganaja alone. Engagement is ongoing with AEDC to bring an end to these issues so our people in Ganaja and other places can have equitable power to do their businesses and live well. Thus resulting to self help by to a point of vandalising company’s properties is unacceptable and it stands condemned.
We enjoin communities facing challenges to explore dialogue as a means of resolving their complaints than resulting in wanton destruction of properties.
The Light Up Movement will continue to use every peaceful methods to mediate between electricity consumers in Kogi State and the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC.
