Going down the memory lane: in 2015, Senator Smart Adeyemi contested for Senate, in a bid to represent the good people of Kogi West for the third time at the red chamber. His campaign slogan which was tagged “Atari Ajanaku” later ended in defeat, as he was flogged by then, Hon. Dino Melaye, now Senator Dino Melaye.
Adeyemi contested under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and been one of the orators of the party, Adeyemi finds it very difficult to swallow the bitter pills of defeat. He headed to the tribunal to challenge the results that brought Melaye into power.
In the petition filed by his counsel, Mr. J. O. Olatoke, SAN, Adeyemi stated that Melaye was not duly elected or returned by the majority of the lawful votes cast during the election.
Let’s quickly recall that Adeyemi who contested on the platform of the PDP second with 38, 148 votes as against Melaye of APC, who scored 41, 120 votes. However, on the 8th of September 2015, Adeyemi’s petition was strikes out and Melaye was upheld.
Adeyemi made some serious allegations at the ruling party; while struggling in Melaye’s shadow.
Years after much wastage on pointless court cases, hunger sets in and reality played its part. Adeyemi found succor in Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State. Who was/is a sworn political enemy of Senator Dino Melaye. This also lead to Adeyemi’s defection from PDP to APC in 2017, due to lack of relevance.
Adeyemi has been playing his card so well, that Kogi APC trusted him with a senatorial ticket. This is a party he once took to court, labelled names and rubbished in mud. Who am I to complain? APC can/will absorb anything.
Adeyemi, the political wife to Senator Dino Melaye, would once again display his irrelevancy at the 2019 general elections. As the good people of Kogi West are very much eager, to return Senator Dino Melaye, back to the Red Chamber.
This came as a result of Melaye’s adequate representation skills. Haven won the best senator of the Federal Republic for 2016 and 2017 consecutively, his constituents sees it as priority for him to be reelected. To Melaye’s name are tons of motions, bills, and several constituency projects. Over the years, Melaye has facilitated over eight electrification projects, road projects, school buildings and lots of empowerment programme.
Within the span of three years, Kogi West witness for the first time after eight years of diaspora representation, by Smart Adeyemi, what it means to have a senator who truly cares.
With every energy and dedication, electorates are looking forward to casting their votes, to see to the return of man of the people, Senator Dino Melaye, back to the Senate, come 2019.
