Senatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for Kogi West, Senator Smart Adeyemi has described the significance of Christmas as marking the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, all over the world.
While addressing the pressmen in Lokoja the capital city of Kogi State, Senator Adeyemi explained that Christmas symbolizes a deeply significant truth of the spiritual life in making unity and love a watchword as a demonstration of a life well spent by Jesus Christ.
The former Chairman Senate Committee on Federal Character Commission and FCT, as is his custom, distributed Christmas to members and supporters of the APC. He urged party faithfuls to remain steadfast in their support for the APC government at all levels.
“As we celebrate, Christians must not forget that Jesus Christ is the reason of the day. The merry making must not becloud the reason of our celebration.
“Our Lord Jesus Christ is the very personification of Divinity. He was born at a time when ignorance, superstition, greed, hatred and hypocrisy prevailed upon the land. Purity was forgotten and morality was neglected. In the midst of these conditions, Christ was born and He worked a transformation in the lives of people. He gave a new and spiritual turn to the lives of man and there came a change upon the land.
“People started upon a new way of life. Thus a new era dawned for the world. In that period, the seeker has no thought of God or higher spiritual life. He lives a life of lust, anger, greed, deluded attachment, pride and jealousy. If the seeker must enter into a new life of spiritual aspiration, purity and devotion, then the Christ-spirit must take its birth within his heart. That is the real Christmas when the Divine element begins to express itself in the heart of the man. From then onward, light begins to outshine where darkness was before.
“These points of deep significance tells that, the spiritual awakening comes to the seeker, who is perfectly humble and meek and poor in spirit. The quality of true humility is one of the indispensable fundamentals. Then we find simplicity, holiness and the renunciation of all desires for worldly wealth and pride of learning.
“Thirdly, even as Christ was born unknown to the world and in the obscurity of darkness, even so, the advent of the Christ-spirit takes place in the inwardness of man when there is total self-effacement and self-abnegation,” he admonished.
Senator Smart Adeyemi implores Christians all over the world to live by the exemplary way of oral and practicality life of Jesus Christ by giving priority to unity and love among all ethnics and faiths, so that, morality and purity of intentions in all our dealings can dominate our social relationships as a society.
He admonished his constituents to eschew all sorts of fulsome violence and any attitude capable of stimulating social vices throughout the festive period, which negates the tradition of the peaceful coexistence in the three senatorial districts of Kogi State, that has been institutionalised by the new direction government ably led by Governor Yahaya Bello.
He said Governor Yahaya Bello has set the pace of a developmental strides in the areas of security of lives and property, diversification of economy and breaking the barriers of ethnocentrism and primordial sentiment among the people of Kogi State.
The cerebral politician congratulated all the Christian faithfuls in Kogi West and prayed that God almighty grant the entire nation the social, economic, moral and spiritual requirements to celebrate the yuletide.
