Kogi State House of Assembly, Lokoja.

Matter of Urgent Public Importance; Calling on Kogi State Government to Build a Four Classrooms Block at LGEA Akatanpa Community of Ojoku District in Ankpa Local Government Area.

Sponsor: Hon Alfa Momoh Rabiu

The right honorable speaker and distinguished colleagues, it is for a reflection on the words of a great African leader and former President of South Africa, Madiba Nelson Mandela when he said “education is the only tool that can change the world” that I received with utmost dismay and grief, a letter written by “Akatanpia Community Development Association” to the executive secretary of Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board, Lokoja and copied to me requesting that four classroom block be built in the community LGEA primary school.

Mr speaker, distinguished and well respected colleagues; whereas LGEA primary school Akatanpia has been in existence for as far back as 1976, it beats my imagination and conscience that it hasn’t been getting any government benefits in terms of both facilities and structure from  previous administrations in the state as supposed and consequently, the school which boasts of about two hundred pupils continues to suffer dilapidation while the pupils are thought under shades.

It is in due cognizance of the importance of education to the development of societies, especially under age children that I bring this to the floor of this chamber as a matter of urgent public importance with an attachment of the state of the school.

Whereas the importance of education is too paramount to be discussed with limit, a United Nations General Assembly advocated for at least thirty percent annual budgetary allocation for education in developing countries and I want to among others pray this honorable house to resolve as follows;

PRAYERS:

(i) That the house writes to the Kogi state ministry of education to include the construction of a four classrooms block at LGEA primary school Akatanpia in its 2019 budget

(ii) That the house directs the Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board to carry out an aggressive assessment of LGEA primary schools across the state in a view to overhaul it’s falling standards.

I so move.

Dated this 24th Day of December, 2018

Hon Alfa Momoh Rabiu
Member Representing Ankpa 2 Constituency.
