The Director General on Media and Publicity to the Governor of Kogi State, Mr Kingsley Fanwo has said his position on Senator Smart Adeyemi should not be attributed to the State Government, saying he spoke as a Kogi Westerner.
Fanwo made this clarifications in Lokoja while fielding questions from journalists.
He said he has no reason to withdraw his statements as they are “factual, logical and legal”.
“It is unfortunate that some mischief makers are trying to relate what I said to their imagination that the Governor has anointed candidates. Whatever I said on Sen. Smart Adeyemi’s qualification for the Senatorial ticket of the APC is personal and not official.
“I am from Kogi West and I surely have a stake and say in who should represent me. It has nothing to do with the Governor.
“Despite being the party leader in the State, the Governor would not chose a Senatorial candidate for Kogi West. He is from Kogi Central. That choice resides in us as Kogi Westerners.
“I have asked questions which they have failed to answer. Why do they want Sen. Smart Adeyemi disqualified? Are they afraid of competing with him? Is his contest a violation of the laws governing our party or the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?
“Governor Yahaya Bello is a democrat. He is not planning to impose any candidate on the people. Let the aspirants go and campaign for support and leave the Governor alone”.
He said the APC primaries conducted so far have been credible and transparent, insisting that delegates will decide the fate of the aspirants.
