An NGO, Voice of Youth Initiative has called on the State House of Assembly to quickly pass the Kogi Youth Development Commission bill.
Executive Director of the group and convener Kogi Youth Development Commission Bill (#KYDCBILL), Mr. Okwutepa Oseni who stated this on Monday during a program to mark this year’s International Youth Day, said the bill if pass and put to use will become a tool for sustainable youth development in the state.
According to Oseni, “Kogi State Youth Development Commission would help to create jobs and provide economic development opportunities through a legally established independent and recognized institution saddled solely with this important responsibility.
“It will attract counterpart funding from Federal Government and International donor agencies to fund youth development programs and activities in the state and as well bring about partnerships.
“It will also bring about sustainability on youth development and Empowerment programs and consolidate all the efforts of the present administration in the areas of industrialization, job creation and security” he said.
Responding, the Deputy Majority Leader of the State Assembly, Ahmed Mohammed said the House will soon pass into law the bill for the establishment of a youth development commission to provide sustainable policy guide for youth activities in the state.
Mohammed, who is sponsor of the bill said the bill has passed second reading and already scheduled for public hearing.
“It is my earnest desire that we call for a public hearing on this bill as soon as possible and expedite further towards having a robust law for the development of Kogi State youth”, he said.
Also speaking at the occasion, Majority Leader of the House, Bello Hassan who pledged to support the bill for accelerated passage said there was dire need to empower the youth.
He however, implored the youths to live within their means rather than living larger than life and urged them to acquire skills to engage one or more trades to agument their income to make life more meaningful.
