I want to dedicate this write up to Kogi state government. They said silence is the best answer to a fool but keeping silent in every issue will also make you a fool and People would assume you are an arrogant person.
It is of great benefit to the government by hearing from the people to enable them make better decisions.
Governor Yahaha Bello’s cabinet is largely a collection of incompetent persons that lack proper political orientation.
Appointing the right people to the right jobs is the bedrock for a successful administration for any governor. Sourcing the best talents and matching their skills to the most suitable positions is vital for smooth transition and effective administration.
Before I proceed, let me make my self clear that I am from Okene local government and a loyal supporter of governor Yahaha Bello right from the primary election till date, but, that will not prevent me from telling him the truth because I love my governor and I wish him well.
Last week, I organized a program titled ‘Let Your Voice Be Heard’ in order to get the public opinion about this present government. With the data I gathered from the people, it is evident that the issue of workers salary
remains a challenge as some people still claim they have not been paid till date while their names are still in the clear list. But I ask myself, could this be true? When commissioner for finance, Asiwaju Asiru Idris swear with almighty Allah that all salaries has been paid? What contradicting statements.
But the major problem rocking the mind of the peoples in the grassroot, street, and even at the market place according to my finding through the program ‘Let Your Voice Be Heard’, is the inability of the people to have access to any cabinet members or appointees of His Excellency Governor Yahaha Bello to explain their issues to and even if they are opportune to meet any of the appointee, their manner of approach is not encouraging.
This has show that the appointees don’t know their role and responsibilities as cabinet member of His Excellency. The fact is that some of these appointees lack political orientation and know nothing about leadership that will have enabled them to affiliate with their people in their local government or ward. Unlike more developed states where those called to serve often have solid educational backgrounds in policy making, those attempting in Kogi state to gain appointments often have no real understanding of governance and policy.
Being a cabinet member to His excellency governor Bello, you have numerous roles to play from the state down to your ward.
Appointment is not a reward. A lot of people who get political appointments mistakenly believe that the job is a reward and a means to advance their pocket careers. No. This is about the mission, it’s a chance to serve your people. An appointment is not a reward. It is an assignment of rendering service to the public.
I want to use this opportunity to call on all the political appointees in Kogi state, and even Nigeria at large, to see their appointments as a call to service and opportunities to impact positively on their communities.
State cabinets, which serve as advisory councils to the governor, generally are made up of officials appointed by the governor to head state departments and agencies, and in some cases top level staff in the governor’s immediate office.
Cabinet members not only provide advice to the governor in situations regarding state security welfare, but they also are the successors to the governor in case the governor is incapacitated in some way.
Appointees are to represent the government at the grassroots, and appointees must be disciplined, accountable and responsible to make the impact of government felt, especially at the grassroots.
Appointees are not to be following the governor around traveling from one state to the other, if His excellency is busy traveling to source for ideas or for negotiation, the appointees should be visiting their constituencies to know the problems of their people. Appointees should represent the government at the grassroots.
Some of those appointees don’t read newspaper, especially those newspapers that cover what is happening in the state and their constituency like kogireports news, confluence plus e.t.c.
Some of the appointees do say that His excellency don’t pay listening ears to them. YES, how will he pay a listening ears to you when he knows that your advice is based on sentiment for self interest that will have no positive impact in his administration. That is why some of you says that you are just an I.T student to this administration.
All these facts are gotten from the ‘Let Your Voice Be Heard’ program.
In conclusion, please the state government should find a means of seeking for the public opinion, since not everyone have access to media to express their feelings.
A program like ‘’LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD‘’ should be designed like how other developed states like Lagos use to gather public opinion in this form to enable them make better decisions. Such program will give the people a way to voice their concerns early and in the process will help the government end up making better, quality decisions.
