Court Grants Interim Injunction on Ejeh Ofu Stool

Justice R.O. Ayoola of Anyigba High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining the recognition of Mr. James Abalaka as the Ejeh of Ofu Local Government Area.

The interim injunction is based on an exparte motion brought by the Ogohi of Ejule, Alhaji Akwu Obaje, who is the claimant, to the High Court demanding that the Ata Igala, His Royal Majesty Michael Ameh Oboni II, the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Kogi State Government should not recognize Mr. James Abalaka as the Ejeh Ofu.

The High Court in pursuit of the interim injunction also restrained Mr. James Abalaka from holding himself or parading himself as the Ejeh Ofu, adding that the order remain in force until the determination of the motion on notice.

When the case which was tagged No. AYHC/108M/2018 came up for hearing on July 30 2018, the presiding judge; Justice R.O. Ayoola adjourned the case till August 26, 2018 for further hearing.

The claimant, Alhaji Akwu Obaje, told our reporter that he was glad that the court granted his reliefs, maintaining that the court remains the last hope of the common man in Nigeria.

The Ejeh Ofu, Mr. James Abalaka, who had been the Onu of Ugwolawo District, was among the traditional rulers appointed recently by Kogi state governor Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.

Others who were also given their letters of appointment were the Ejeh Olamaboro, Chief Simeon Ujah, Ohi of Adavi, Chief Ireyi Bello a first class status and the Adogu of Eganyi, Chief Muhammed Adambe a second class status. They were all appointed in accordance with the Kogi law on appointments and disposition of chiefs’ No. 23 of 2006.
