The Kogi State Command of the Nigerian Prisons Service on Thursday said its prisons formations in the state did not record any jail break, saying all its facilities are safe, intact and peaceful.

The Controller of Prisons in the state, Martyns Apebende in a statement issued in Lokoja, clarified that report in some electronic media that the two principal suspects in the case of Senator Dino Melaye escaped from its custody is not true.
He said that the duo of Kabiru Seidu, aka Osama and Nuhu Salisu, aka Small who escaped from a police cell on Wednesday morning were never brought to any prison in Kogi State.
The statement noted that apart from the prisons, other security agencies with power of arrest also maintain detention facilities where suspects are temporarily kept for processing to court before being taken to prisons custody if so pronounced.
The Controller, while appreciating the cordial relationship between the prisons service in the state and the media, appealed for verification of information to avoid “spreading misleading information that could create unnecessary anxiety in otherwise peaceful quarters”.

He assured that its staff members remain committed to the course of inmates’ reformation and rehabilitation in line with best global practices.
