Ebe Festival: Gunmen Kill Masquerade, Abduct Oil Magnate in Okene

A masquerade was allegedly killed by suspected gunmen at Inoziomi quarters in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The tragedy, it was gathered occurred at about 10 p.m during a traditional “Ebe festival”, held at the weekend, when the gunmen riding okada, opened fire and killed a masquerade on the spot, while two people were critically injured.

An eyewitness accounts have it that the masquerade allegedly stabbed a supporter of another masquerade, which led to the death of the man.

Some suspects have been arrested by the military in connection with the killing.

Meanwhile, the Chairman / Chief Executive Officer of Always Petroleum & Gas Limited, Otinau Momohjimoh, was abducted on Sunday at about 8pm, by unknown gunmen in Okene, Kogi State, where he had gone to offer prayers.

Otinau, said to be in his 40s was abducted when a 9-member kidnap gang stormed the venue of the prayer session and began to shoot sporadically into the air to scare people away.

Usman Ishaq, an eyewitness added that as people were scampering for safety, four of the gunmen held the oil mogul, dragged him into their unmarked Toyota Camry and zoomed off.

His words: “The abductors are yet to make phone contacts with the family of their victim to demand ransom”.

William Ayah, police spokesman for Kogi police command confirmed the killing of the masquerade, adding that the police is doing everything possible to bring to book those behind the killings.
