The crisis in the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kogi State got messier Saturday as Governor Yahaya Bello’s faction opened a new secretariat.
The governor also announced the constitution of new state executive that will pilot the affairs of the party in the state.
Members of the appointed state executive were inaugurated yesterday by the factional chairman, Ahovi Salam Ibrahim.
The new secretariat is located at the popular Murtala Muhammad Way, opposite Specialist Hospital, Lokoja.
The parallel secretariat was commissioned by the APC National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun, who according to sources close to the APC national secretariat was deceived by the governor that the secretariat was for President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign office.
Bello’s letter of invitation to the APC national secretariat, according to sources, only featured ‘Kogi APC mega rally’ and commissioning of ‘President Buhari campaign’ office and not the opening of a parallel secretariat.
Reacting to the development, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo, who was recently confirmed by the national leadership of the APC as the authentic state chairman of the party, accused Governor Bello of disregarding the party’s decision and trying to politicize the party.
His words; “Why is Bello in a hurry to constitute illegal state executive, after all, the President has appointed our national party leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu  to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building team of the APC.
“How can a state governor appoint party executives without the approval of the party’s national executive committee, NEC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)?
“Are party executives appointed or elected. Why does Bello likes wasting the state’s meagre resources on fruitless ventures?
“We will, however, not be responsible or respond to any person or group of individuals who decide to allow themselves to be used by forces who did not know how the party was formed.
“They should know that Kogi’s politics has gone beyond propaganda and media hype to cheapen the Kogi people,” Ametuo said.
