I have tried very hard to mentally and empirically search which of the life’s phenomenon and basic needs of man is more important than education, I could not find. Feeding and sheltering are more instinctive. Clothing, also a basic need, is a product of education.
Education is so important that it nourishes the instinctive needs of man. Knowledge which is transmitted through education is power, and it advances the total development of the individual. According to a British writer and poet, G.K Chesterton (1874 – 1936), “Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.”
Honourable Ahmed Mohammed of Ankpa 1 Constituency understands that education is key to the development of the people and this made him to execute several projects in the subsector.
Whenever elected political or public office holders are approaching certain time of their administration or midterm as the case may be, discordant tunes are often sounded as political critics either alleges that the office holder in question has not performed or has performed greatly. While oppositions and loyalists of the administration comments to oppose or loudly affirm that the government cum individual has performed creditably and in most cases the range of opinions differ depending on which side of the political divide the opinion holder belongs to, either for or against the politician or public office holder. However, in the case of Honourable Ahmed Mohammed, the view is unanimous that he has excelled by all objective parameters in just one year and ten months in office as member representing Ankpa 1 State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly. The speed with which the he took over projects upon assumption of the mantle of leadership in year 2016 underscored these philosophical conclusions.
Monday, 29 January 2018 was another historic moment as Honourable Ahmed Mohammed felt the necessity of encouraging the young ones to develop interest in education through the award of scholarships to students to assist them in their educational pursuits. He visited Unity Comprehensive Secondary school in Ankpa local govt to fulfil his pledge to award scholarships to some of their students. He was well received by the management of the school and indeed the students, who out of joy and in appreciation took turn to entertain the Honourable member with their individual dance steps. After presenting to the students the cheques to fulfil the promised made, he, however advised them to be serious with their studies as they are the leaders of tomorrow.
In a similar development, the Honourable member proceeded to Aleka Academy, another secondary school in his constituency where he equally fulfilled his pledge to award scholarships to some of the students as the affected students were presented with their cheques. He was well appreciated by management of the school who thanked him very well for his show of generosity; he thanked them too and promised to do more stressing that education is one of his major priorities as a lawmaker.
In 2016, he flagged-off his education scheme tagged “Back to School Education Support Scheme”, and so far, lots of people and communities has benefitted from this program. He has embarked on a massive rehabilitation of dilapidated schools, providing writing materials, School uniforms to students, paid SSCE/WAEC, JAMB, NECO fees for students, and also assisted students in tertiary institutions to ameliorate the hardship.
I recalled when he took over the mantle of leadership, he made a declaration that, he would surely transform not only the infrastructure but the citizen’s living condition as a whole as he would lead Ankpa district better than he met it and within two years now, he hasn’t disappointed the vast majority of Ankpa people because he has embarked on a holistic revolution that has touched all section and sectors of his Constituency irrespective of ethnic, religious, partisan affiliations.
Ahmed Ahmed, a pragmatic young leader who sees leadership very differently, thank you for recognising your people with your “People oriented” projects and programs. You are indeed a leader with a sense of responsibility and providing for the people the things they need to make life worth living.
