The government officials from the six local governments of Okun land have unanimously severed themselves from the stance regarding the Cattle Colony/Range Policy of the State Government taken by the Mokikan led Okun Development Association.
In the past, Okun Development Association has been a reputable organ that binds every element to foster peace, unity and development of Okun people and their territory. On this note, we enjoin the new President of the association to consult his predecessors on the activities of the association that made it to maintain dignity an reputation until he took over the mantle of leadership.
It’s worthy to note that, no meeting held that included any of the government officials as stakeholders, to take a common stand as regard the subject matter. We are bona-fide sons and daughters of Okun and that our perceptions and interests on the meliorative policy should be captured in an issue of public importance of this magnitude.
Times immemorial, there had been peaceful coexistence between the Herdsmen and Land owners in Okun Land as substantiated by the ODA until the tide of criminality set in.
Meanwhile, crime is a social hassle that is not peculiar to any certain ethnic groups or religious settings. One of the greatest achievements of the past administration of Okun Development Association was the ability to mediate peaceful coexistence within all the races dwelling on the shore of Okun People.
We also warn the president of the ODA not to politicise the revered association that our eminent personalities fought to institute. We therefore call on our traditional rulers to refrain Mokikan from using the venerated association to champion the cause of Dino Melaye.
In the same vein, we advise Barr Mokikan to improve on his leadership tenet and work out a synergy with other socio cultural ethic groups “Igala, Ebira” in Kogi State to steer forward efforts towards sustainability of peace and development rather than castigation of the government policies which connotes working with other political oppositions.
