Kabba Day Debacle; Our Collective Hypocrisy and Rapacious Proclivities

For a while I deliberately activated observation mode and stayed on the sidelines watching events unfold in my state, Kogi State.
I have been asked  why the silence and my response is that wisdom is profitable to direct. People close to me will attest to my assertion that every human action and proclamation boils down to interests. It might be noble and selfless or nefarious and selfish. Before now those following me can testify to my conviction that our Governor, His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Bello needs our collective supplications to Almighty God (Allah) for divine protection from his friends and this believe has been reinforced by events witnessed of late. I seek the indulgence of my readers on my use of language and it is as a result of my exasperation of what rapacious proclivities have turned my State to and for what? For how long shall we tolerate the efforts of a few to sacrifice collective good on the altar of selfish individual interests and ego trip?
I have followed the discomforting but avoidable ego trip and political skirmishes between Governor Yahaya Bello and Distinguished Sen. Dino Melaye and what comes to mind is my late maternal grandfather’s constant sayings that
‘The worst fight is the one that’s unnecessary’ and ‘People collide over small issues and completely miss the big stuff’
Kogites witnessed the exchange of encomiums by GYB and SDM when the going was good but along the line things fell apart and the centre obviously could no longer hold.
Our elders always ask how long our days on earth will be that we decide to be adorned in armoured raiment.
A preamble is necessary to give room for objectivity. The truth of the matter is that all is not well with us in Kogi State and every and any narrative contrary to this fact is sitting truth on its head and twisting logic.
On the condemnable incident that played out during Kabba day celebration sticking with the truth is what can set us free.
I have read posts with strenuous attempts to make villains of heroes and vice versa. I saw propagation of brazen falsehood but decorum will not permit me to shower those involved with curses.
Vengeful and vindictive agendas are being promoted leaving Kogi State worse off.
Before going further let me unequivocally state that thugs were recruited and commissioned from outside Okunland to perpetrate the evil witnessed during Kabba day. Security agencies watched on as urchins invaded the event and none was apprehended.
I saw a supposed Honourable member of the State House Assembly from outside Okunland who has become a recurring decimal whenever violence is being perpetrated in the state in action displaying attitudes not befitting men of honor but miscreants. As sure as day comes after night those presently living by the sword in Kogi State will surely perish by same.
Invited guests received ample doses of tear gas while those who perpetrated the nefarious act invaded the venue of event and went away unchallenged.
Who are those bent on aiding GYB to fail?
Kabba day 2017 offered a rare opportunity to settle the rift between GYB and SDM but those in charge either feigned knowledge of this fact or refused to take advantage which finally resulted in the show of shame witnessed.
It is preposterous to visit and invite anyone to an occasion and attempt to bar such individual from the same event because another individual is expected
Everything that transpired has been archived and will come up in the fullness of time.
2017 Kabba day is the best so far in every sense of the word and this took a lot of planning and efforts. Kudos to those who made it possible.
There is this effort by some people to create the erroneous impression that Gov. Yahaya Bello is despised by Okun people and the crazy notion that Senator Dino Melaye is not loved by his constituents, nothing can be further from the truth. Some of the appointees are crooked pegs in smooth holes and their deficiency in character and strategic reasoning will always come to the fore. Those benefiting from crises in the state will not want peace to reign forgetting that whenever the cock decides to perch on the rope, neither the cock nor the rope will know peace.
Some are busy enhancing their political and economic fortunes at the detriment of the state but they are just building
their houses will spittle and surely their structure will crumble and collapse on being touched by dew.
Whatever we do, feel or say Alh. Yahaya Bello remains the Governor of Kogi State and Senator Dino Melaye is representing Kogi West of which Okunland is an integral and prominent part. Kogi State belongs to us all and it is warped thinking to say the geographical and political space is not large enough for peaceful cohabitation.
GYB and SDM should find a way to resolve the contending issues among them and save Kogites the unnecessary crisis their ego trip is foisting on the state. The fox mentality in combat they are exhibiting is not in anyone’s interest enough is enough.
Before the invasion of the venue by imported thugs all went well and if SDM had left the event without the insane and thoughtless attack on him by imported thugs, nothing would have prevented the Governor from coming to honor Okunland with his presence in the event.
From across interest divides, blames are being traded and a nauseating presentation of victor and vanquished scenario rife but it is the average Kogite that is negatively affected. Who has the persistent feud of these two young men helped? And some are disturbing us with the #NotTooYoungToRun idea.
In terms of donations, Kabba day 2017 was a huge success but the disruption at a point is a sad commentary on our image as a state and I wonder when Kogi State will stop being in the news for bad reasons.
It’s strange to see individuals benefiting from a system collaborate in conspiracy to undermine the same system. That is the story with some political appointees and if they do not desist they will become nothing more than the overfed grasscutters our elders call ‘oya adimu’
It should be about what is right for the people in the long run.
We are all guilty of greed; the leaders and led. The challenges Kogites face are beyond juvenile skirmishes by political leaders and it’s about time emphasis is placed on what will improve the lives of the people.
And as for supporters crying more than the bereaved may arrogance display of ignorance be banished from your lives.
Our pot of soup is stylishly being emptied with morsels of bread by political merchants and we are busy insulting and fighting each other instead of confronting those who have vowed never to let peace reign in the state. No tribe is bad but within each are sons and daughters of perdition whose conduct is giving their folks bad names.
The brains behind the ignominy in Kabba during the event know themselves and they should not be under any illusion they were not seen but at the appropriate time, the fact that the Kings mother is a witch will be proclaimed and the rotten butt of the purveyors of all that is not in the interest of the state shall be exposed.
