The Deputy Governor of Kogi state, Elder Simon Achuba has said that very soon the state will be a centre of attraction in terms of biofuel production in the country.
Achuba who stated this when the leadership of the Department of Renewable Energy of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) paid a courtesy call on the state government in his office in Lokoja.
He said the biofuel project which will commence soon in the state would, apart from providing employment opportunities, will attract many investors to the state in particular and the country at large.
The Deputy Governor said the state is passionate about the project and would cooperate with the federal government in ensuring that the necessary preparations are made ahead of time.
He urged the NNPC team to be on the same page and speed with the state government in the effort to execute the developmental project for the good of the people.
In his speech, the commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Oloruntoba Keyinde said in less than two years, the whole world would gather in kogi state for ground breaking ceremony of the biofuel project.
He commended the team for making it up to kogi state, stating that the present administration of the state is committed to Any project that would impact positively on the lives of the people.
Earlier, the leader of the NNPC team, Alhaji Abdulmalik Umaru said they were in the state to access Alape Staple Crop Procession Zone for the production of cassava and sugar cane for biofuel.
He said their coming was in line with NNPC directives to visit the state and see the potentials and partner with it for the good of the country.
According to him, the availability of the biofuel would reduce the over dependence on oil in the country.
Present at the occasion also, were the commissioner for finance, Hon Asiru Idris, the commissioner for environment, Hon. Rosemary Osikoya, the surveyor general of Kogi state, Surveyor Abolarin and others.
