The Director General on Media and Publicity to the Governor of Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo has frowned at the tirades targeted at the Governor by Chief Clarence Olafemi who recently announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a chat with journalists in Lokoja, Sunday, Fanwo said Olafemi is an old man who should be seen to be a promoter of peaceful conduct.
His words: “I read the statement credited to a former Chieftain of the APC, Chief Clarence Olafemi who claimed he left the APC because of the conduct of the Governor.
“As a leader, Chief Olafemi should have chosen his words in such a manner that will not demean the office of the Governor.
“As enlightened minds who have respect for elders, we have chosen not to join issues with Olafemi. His problem is not the Governor but his undefined ambitions.
“From an ambition to become the Governor to becoming the Deputy Governor and now, the Senate, Chief Olafemi has been moving from one party to the other. This is just one of the movement.
“APC will continue to wax stronger in the state because the people who vote are with the party. The paradigm shift in the political horizon of the state has continued to confound the old order.
“PDP cannot regain power in Kogi State after the years of locust. We will not be surprised if Olafemi leaves PDP to another party again if his interests are not accommodated in his new party.
“We urge all APC faithful in Mopamuro to remain steadfast as the party in good health, not only in Mopamuro but across the state as will be manifestly proven in the 2019 general elections.
“Governor Yahaya Bello is committed to uplifting Kogi State and fulfill his social contract with the people of Kogi State. He has promised to use the resources of Kogi State for the people of the state rather than a select few who think the state is their cow”.
The Director General challenged Olafemi to tell the people the real reasons he was going to PDP rather than “hang a wet sweater on the Governor “.
“We are aware that some perennial contestants are mobilizing their perennial losing machines across the nation to move to the PDP with the hope of displacing the President.
“Kogi is 100% for President Muhammadu Buhari as we appreciate the global respect he has earned for Nigeria and Nigerians.
“Olafemi will continue to battle with his conscience because his rights that were denied by his new friends were restored by the man he now see as a foe. Such is the irony of politics”.
Fanwo said APC needed to lose Olafemi in order to win his Ward as he was roundly defeated in his Ward during some of the last general elections.
