Former Commissioner, Idris Omede Reveals Only Solution to Nigeria’s Economic Woes

Former Kogi State Commissioner for health and Chairman, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN), Dr Idris Omede has stated that implementation of policies was the surest way to economic recovery.

Speaking with Daily Post in Abuja, he explained that putting robust policies together by government was not enough, but implementation of those policies which must have professionals playing a leading role.

The APBN Chairman noted that the nation’s revenue house had in the last couple of years done well, adding that other sectors must be professionally driven so as to sustain encouraging revenues for the country.

“I could say with all sense of commitment that the management of the nation’s Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) are doing well looking at the current tax policies”, he noted

“I hope the implementation continue to be focused so there would be enhanced collection of taxes for national development and good governance”, he added.

He called on Federal lawmakers not to relent in their responsibilities towards ensuring that Nigeria has strong revenue base, saying that contemporary tax laws must have legal backing for patronage of Professionals.

“As it stands, there is need for legal provisions that professionals must get involved in tax collections or such responsibilities that enhances the growth of revenues.”

“As for us on this side of the divide, we are ready to partner with government and private sectors for a sustainable development,” maintained
