The Deputy Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hassan Abdullahi Baiwa, has described the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Umar Imam, as a leader who had real passion for the parliamentary process and a decent sense of what was right as well as good judgment of fair play.
The Deputy Speaker made the statement during a courtesy call on the Imam at his G.R.A residence in Lokoja.
He pointed out that the Imam, during his glorious tenure as Speaker, brought his wealth of experience to bear and build an enduring relationship with the other colleagues which created harmonious and peaceful co-existence amongst members irrespective of party affiliations.
Hassan, who represents Dekina/Buraidu Constituency, commended Imam for the maturity he exhibited stressing that it takes a great courage for Imam to do what he did.
“Today, he is free because his life is more important that the Speakership. Our consolation is that Rt. Hon. Imam worked for the interest of the entire Kogi State, not for himself”, he said.
He maintained that the former Speaker did not fail and assured him that posterity would in no distance future judge him as a leader that have passion for the development of his fatherland.
He urged the people of Lokoja I constituency to continued their support for the former Speaker.
“I want use this medium to appeal to the people of Lokoja 1 constituency to remain steadfast in their support for Ahmed Umar Imam, our leader. He remain a role model and a democrat per- excellence whose unparalleled tracks records would remain as the best in the anal of lawmaking in Kogi state”, he added.
Responding on behalf of the former Speaker, a member of Kogi State Executive of All Progressive Congress (APC), Mallam Lawal Shaba-yagi thanked the the Deputy Speaker for the visit.
Since his resignation last Wednesday, the former Speaker has being playing host to crowd of visitors who troop in large number to his Alfa Imam Close residence in GRA, Lokoja.
