It is no longer news that all the state higher institutions are on strike for the past three months and series of meeting was held between these institutions and the government so as to proffer situation to lingering strike but all to no avail.
I want to major this my article on that of the kogi state university strike so that we can critically examine why ASUU are insisting on calling off the strike in spite of government direction to Asuu that the body should resume work on or before 15th of this month.
My question is that why is ASUU always going on strike? Can we say that going on strike is part of their hobbies? What are the determinant of ASUU strike? Is government leaving up to its responsibilities? Is government taking education sector as its first priority?. As a student of this institutions, I want to authoritatively say that the welfare of the lecturers as well as that of the student are handle with frivolity by the government. Given by the NUC standard, the number of students per each level are not more than 70 student but i can tell you the truth that some levels in this institution are more than 200 to 300 students and as such this make lecturing work so difficult for these lecturers in various department of the institution not only the lecturers but also the student of cause during GST class, the student knows what they are passing through.
We all know how we do sweat like Christmas goat and also hanging around the various Lecture theater like a sheep without Shepherd meanwhile the children of  those in the corridors of power who control the affairs of this institution are in Abroad schooling with the tax payers money. The lecturers are agitating that Earn Academic Allowance be paid, Tax issues be resolve, salary be paid, those that went for study leave be paid, lecturers who went on sabbatical be paid, those that were employed in 2015 be affirm before they could call off the strike.
Looking at these demand tendered by ASUU to the state government, I can say that their demand is not that much to any administration who has the welfare of the workers at heart in spite of the prodigious amount of money that came to the state since the beginning of this Yahaya Bello led administration.
Instead of the government to concentrate on how to meet up the demand of ASUU within the shortest period of time so that the academic activities can resume, all the government is doing is what I will term as media propaganda where by is only on news paper and television that salary of this acclaim union is been paid.
It high time this administration should stop playing politics with our future and do the necessary thing it ought to do so as to prevent further deterioration of this institution.
