A lawmaker, Honourable Idris Ndako has appeal to the the state government to  establish more  secondary schools across the twenty one local government areas in the state.

Ndako, who represent Lokoja II state constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, made the appeal  in a motion of urgent importance he sponsored at the plenary this week.

He said  the role of secondary education in our society is very important, hence the need to appeal to the state government to establish three additional secondary schools in each of the twenty one local government areas.

“Worried by the absence of  government secondary schools in almost all the twenty one local government areas of the state and disturbed that the available UBE schools in these areas can only boast of JSS 1, 2 and 3 classes, a typical example is the Felele Crusher UBE School in my constituency, it is only proper that I appeal to the current administration to establish more secondary schools within the local government areas of Kogi state”,  he said.

Ndako lamented the high cost of education and the increase in the numbers of  school dropouts because of the inability of students to continue beyond JSS 3.

“Considering that majority of the population of the citizens cannot afford the expensive fess of the private secondary schools in the state, there is the urgent need for the establishment of government secondary schools in the state to provide for senior secondary classes which the UBE is lacking”, he added.

“As a politician and a stakeholder, for kogi state  to tackle its present educational challenges, both the governments and individuals needed to give premium to education.”

The lawmaker appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello to give priority to education under his new direction policy stressing further that: “it is my believe that Governor Yahaya Bello will consider this appeal and give it the attention  required to write his name in gold ,by establishing the secondary schools across the twenty one local government”.

The motion was seconded by member representing Ijumu constituency, Hon Victor Omofaiye.
