The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, for Kogi State, Mallam Hussaini Halilu Pai has assured the people of the state that Independence National Electoral Commission, INEC would conduct a peaceful and credible governorship election in the state in October.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Iwo, Osun State during the 20th annual Ramadan lecture, Pai who conducted the last gubernatorial election in Ekiti state stated that the commission would concentrate on the gains of the previous elections in the country.
According to him, the Ekiti election was successful because the people of the state resolved and committed to the election project and the commitment of the commission staff.
His words: “we are able to achieved what we did in Ekiti state because the people of the state resolved to make the election credible. We will definitely improve on the gains of that election in Kogi state to the satisfaction of everybody”.
He sought for the cooperation of the people of the state, particularly the stakeholders, traditional rulers, electorate and the media to make the exercise a huge success.
“My appeal to the people of Kogi state is that they should prepare for a credible election, the electorate should ensure that they have Permanent Voters Cards PVC and they should obey the rules and regulations guarding the conduct of elections by the commission”, he added.
He also appealed to the media to assist the commission by ensuring that all activities of INEC are reported correctly without any bias.
