The Kogi State National and State House of Assemblies Election Petitions Tribunal has commence pre- hearing of petitions.

A former Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Abdullahi Bello, has urged the tribunal headed by Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme to strike out a petition challenging his victory at the last House of Representatives election for non-competence.

Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon Tijani Damisa is challenging the victory of Abdullahi Bello at the tribunal.

Bello, through his counsel, M. A. Ebute, filed a preliminary objection to strike out Damisa’s petition for lack of confidence. Damisa’s lawyers, led by David Adegbe, are yet to file their counter-affidavit and asked the panel for adjournment to enable them file their counter-affidavit. This request was not challenged by Bello’s counsel.

The panel adjourned to 9th of July to hear all preliminary issues.

The three-man tribunal panel mandated to handle the petitions submitted by the aggrieved candidates held her inaugural sitting on April 29, has 28 petitions to deal with.
