Stakeholders from Kogi west and central senatorial district are perfecting moves to produce the next governor of the state, lamenting  marginilization of its people since creation of the state.

A communique after a stakeholders meeting under the platform Kogi Equity initiative with delegates from Kogi west and central senatorial districts and other ethnic minority groups said  that since the creation of Kogi State no non-Igala has been given opportunity to  govern the state.

The meeting held in Lokoja lamented that the governorship of Kogi State and key political appointments in the State have been held by Kogi East senatorial District since the creation of the State in 1991.

The communique signed by Dada Fehinti and Taiwo Otitolaye chairman and secretary respectively  said some positions and political offices are been made exclusive reserve and birth right of the Igalas, demanding for equity and justice for the people of Kogi West and Central.

“We are united by common destiny of political equity, power shift and social justice in line with the collective aspirations of our people that have been marginalized for over twenty years.

“Since the creation of Kogi State no non-Igala has been a governor and given the backwardness of human and capital development despite the enormous resources; when compared with other states created at the same time, the meeting resolved that power shift is inevitable.”

The group also frowned at the lopsidedness of projects, appointment and human development in the State, resolving that the leadership of Kogi equity initiative should meet traditional rulers, political leaders, women groups, youth groups and all stakeholders in Kogi west and central senatorial districts and other ethnic minority groups to realize the power shift agenda.

The group noted that  the recent  appointment of  clerk of the House of Assembly in Kogi State shows non Igala’s are highly marginalized

“A junior officer was appointed Clerk of the House ahead of his senior officers because they are non-Igala and they were forcefully transferred to perfect the injustice,” the communique said.

The forum  demands that the State Government and authority concerned should immediately correct “the injustice within seven days in the interest of justice, equity and peace of the State.”
