To make agriculture attractive and affordable for rural dwellers, Governor Idris Wada has pledged over the weekend commitment to reducing the cost of agricultural production to the barest minimum.
Making the pledge while commissioning some tractors, bulldozers, pay-loaders and other earthmoving agricultural equipments procured by his administration for lease to farmers at subsidized rate, he said the cardinal thrust of his administration is creating a conducive environment for the youth, women and the teaming populace beyond subsistence farming.
Wada indicated that in spite of the dwindling resources from the Federation Account and other competing demands in the state, he took the bold step to further demonstrate his commitment to the total transformation of the state.
“These acquisition of this versatile land clearing, land acquisition machines, alongside the tractors and pumping machines, will go a long way in opening up more agricultural land for crop production by our farmers at affordable cost,” he noted.
The emphasis, according to him, is in bringing down the cost of production for farmers to enable them expand their horizons. He noted that land clearing, preparation and development are expensive steps in farming that have continuously kept the people at the subsistence level.
To brake away from that, “we focused on buying these equipments, which will further help in opening up new farms and feeder roads to have easy access to markets, thereby solving the challenge of unemployment of our teaming youths.”
Therefore, he tasked the state Ministry of Agriculture to ensure that the equipments are effectively and efficiently deployed to the people and adequately maintained for optimum use.
