The Nigeria Police has again reiterated its resolve that political parties and their candidates will be given a free level playing ground to exercise their right during the upcoming general elections.
Paul Okafor, Kogi State Commissioner of Police, who stated this at an interactive session with party candidates in Lokoja noted that necessary measures have been put in place for hitch-free poll in the state just as he called on party elders and candidates to support the force in achieving the target of free, fair, credible and acceptable elections.
“We have design strategies that can make all the eligible voters come and exercise their franchise on the day of elections, in so doing, we expect that you reciprocate because fighting crime today needs a collective responsibility, we the Police cannot do it so we need your cooperation.
“Let everybody follow what they law says we should do. We want all the political parties in Kogi state to follow suit what has been practiced at the national level when all parties come together with an undertaking that these elections will go on peacefully without any form of violence and ensure that the exercise is run smoothly.
That is exactly what we are replicating at this level, to ensure that all candidates undertaken a display of good behavior, to guide their supporters so that no form of violence will be witnessed,” Okafor said.
The CP Okafor added that no form of rancor and unrest will be allowed before, during and after the poll in Kogi State as anyone caught in such act shall be legally dealt with.
“People should conduct themselves and they should not involve in any form capable that can cause the break down of law and order.
Our warning is that all eligible voters should come out massively and cast their votes on the days of elections without resulting to any untoward act which includes mischief of any form, arson, rioting and anything that could lead to public breach as these acts will no way be tolerated by the Nigeria Police and all sister services.
Let me warn all those who are planning such to please as much as possible drop such ideas as anybody caught will be made to face the due wrath of the law,” Concludes Okafor.
