Kogi State Second Confluence ‘V’ Carnival Gets Date

All is now set for the Second Edition of Confluence ‘V’ Carnival in Kogi State which begins on November 1, 2014.

Main events for the carnival includes Street Party, Boat Regatta, Contemporary Music Fiesta, Arts and Crafts Exhibition, Masquerade Parade, Indigenous Music and Dance, Food Fair, Bush Bar and Children Fiesta.

Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Barrister Kayode Olowomoran who disclosed this at a press conference in the ministry noted that the carnival will improve the socioeconomic and political transformation of the state.

He said the carnival would encourage cultural heritage abound both in the rural and urban settlements of the state.

“As you are aware, over the years there was a general tendency to under estimate the importance of culture and tourism and the synergy it provides between other facets of national life, begins Barrister Olowomoran.

“But the recent happenings and especially the excellent performances of Kogi State contingent as second overall state in the 2013 edition of Confluence ‘V’ Carnival which served as a preparatory ground to grooming Kogi state contingent for optima performance recorded.

“We must therefore brace up for the enormity of this task, the task of building a carnival that will drive the new economic vision of the Governor Idris Ichalla Wada as enshrined in the vision 2020,” he said.

Technical Director and a consultant for the 2014 Carnival, Professor Rasaq Bakare who expressed happiness in working with the ministry to assist in fishing out cultural talents in state noted that the working with relevant stakeholders for the smooth running of the carnical would unlock the unique ability of the sector to promote national unity, integration and social cohesion among the three groups that constitute the state.

The carnival is expected to end on November 4, 2014.
