Executive Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Ichalla Wada has again reiterated its resolve to reward hard work and excellence with a laudable gesture.

Governor Wada, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports, Honorable Attah Ikani Sule made call on Tuesday at the Cash Award Ceremony for athletes that won laurels for the state at the last National Sports Festival tagged “Eko 2012” in Lagos.

He said that their performance at the festival has greatly contributed to the achievement recorded by the State Government in the area of sports just as he commended the supports of director, officials, Coaches and staffs of sports council to achieve the glory.

While urging the athletes and officials to put more efforts to surpass their last achievement in the next Sports Festival slated for Calabar, Cross River this year, Governor maintained that the state would provide the necessary support and encouragement to excel at the festival.

Earlier, Director of Sports, Kogi State Sports Council, Abdullahi Haddi Opotu disclosed that 96 athletes and 35 officials represented the state at the “Eko 2012” festival with medals coming from Judo, Boxing, Wrestling and Traditional Sports(Ayo).

Kogi State recorded One gold, Three silver and Three bronze medals in the last festival.

Tunde Olaino Williams won the only gold in the Judo event. The three silver were recorded in the Boxing event from Korede Adeniyi(64kg) Celina Agwu (75kg) and Solomon Jegede (91kg) and three bronze were won by Vera Alchihiere(Judo) Dijeh Gozie(Wrestling) and Mary Alaiya/Mubo Alabi(Ayo)

The 19th National Sports Festival is expected to start in November this year in Calabar, Cross River State.
