The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) yesterday expressed concern over the number of deaths and auto crashes recorded on the Abuja-Lokoja road in 2013.

The FRSC zonal commander in charge of Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti States, Mr Dennis Terrang, who spoke in Lokoja, expressed hope that this year will be better.

Terrang, who was in Lokoja to brainstorm with top officials of the Kogi State sector command   on how to achieve the 2014 target of reducing road crashes by 25 per cent, called for collaborative efforts.

He said the FRSC intends to deploy more men and equipment to the state command for effective patrol of roads.

Also speaking, the state Sector Commander Godwin Omiko said over speeding was the major cause of accidents in the state.

The sector commander added that apart from speed, drunk driving has also been identified to be a major problem among motorists plying the Abuja-Lokoja-Okene road. He warned that any driver caught wanting will be dealt with.
