Child Abuse Will No Longer Be Tolerated In Kogi State – Halima Wada

Child abuse in Kogi State would no longer be tolerated as it will be meted with stiff penalty and Legal action.

Wife of Kogi State Governor, Hajia Halima Wada, stated this when she visited, Stephen Ogbewun,a boy who was burnt with a pressing iron by his Father at the State Specialists Hospital, Lokoja.

The First Lady described the action of the father towards his son as unfortunate and called on the Nigerian Police to subject him to medical examination.

Represented by the wife of the State Deputy Governor, Tokunbo Awoniyi, said child abuse of whatever kind is ungodly and would not be tolerated any longer in the State.

Hajia Wada said her NGO, Kogi Women Empowerment Network, is now positioned to fight abuses against children and women.

She urged women not to protect their husband who are animals in sheep cloth when the err, described the Stephen Ogbewun’s ordeal as heart rendering

The State First Lady said her NGO will fight the present abuse legally after Police investigation and will ensure that those involved in such dastardly act no longer go scot-free as well as serve as deterrent to others.

She employed wives to be alive to their responsibilities at home and ensure that their children are always protected.

According to Hajia Wada “when children are treated violently, they end up been a problem to the society”, called on parents to discipline children with love and not with hatred.

The First Lady made monetary donation for the upkeep of the child and some items for his quick recovery.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Specialists Hospital, Dr. Amodu Paul, said the child has since been stabilised and will be monitored to recover quickly. He commended the positive disposition of the Wife of the State Governor.

Also speaking, the mother of the child, Serah Ogbewun, thanked the Wife of State Governor, and said the assistance will assist in the quick healing process of the child.
