Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada on Friday averted a major industrial crisis in the state when he ordered the immediate payment of salary due to primary school teachers for the months of November and December.

The governor who gave the directive while addressing teachers in the Kogi State Government House also advised all teachers who have no bank accounts to do so without delay and directed that henceforth, prompt payment of salaries, leave bonus and other emoluments due to teachers should be done alongside their counterparts in the civil service.

Wada commended the teachers for their peaceful conduct, adding that non-violent advocacy, as means of addressing pressing industrial issues such as workers’ welfare is acceptable, as long as they are peaceful.

The governor, who was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Olugbemiro Jegede, Head of Service (HOS), Dr. Moses Atakpa and other top government functionaries, promised that he would from now on monitor the payment of salaries and general welfare of teachers in the state.

“I have directed that, henceforth, there should be no more movements of your salaries from one bank to another,” he said.
