The leader of the progressives in the last House of Representatives, Otunba Dino Melaye, is set to emerge as deputy governorship of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Kogi State.
Given that the present Speaker of the Kogi State assembly is from the central senatorial district, it become logical for ACN to pick deputy governor from the western flank of the state. But eminent Ebira leaders are said to be in talks with ACN flagbearer, Prince Abubakar Audu, to hold on to Dr. Moses Wokil. They reasoned that the choice of Wokil will give Audu the same advantage he enjoyed in 1999.
In a smart move to retain the deputy governor slot, ACN leaders in Okunland met in Kabba yesterday to pick a frontline Okun politician as Audu’s running mate.
Three amiable politicians showed interested. They are; Chief Olumoroti, Chief Obadofin and Otunba Dino. In a keenly contested election, Otunba Dino Melaye emerged as running mate to Abubakar Audu for with 4 votes, Olumoroti had 3 votes, and Obadofin 2 votes.
The stage is now set for Okun leaders to present Dino to Audu as his running mate in the forthcoming election.
KogiReports.com gathered from a reliable source that Audu is yet to give his consent to the new arrangement but will be happy to run with irrepressible young politician.
The news of Dino’s emergence energized the already charged political atmosphere in Kogi State. Watchers and analysts believe his choice will make the electioneering campaigns lively.
