Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, on Saturday joined his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, and the entire Salifu family in Lokoja to celebrate the solemnization of holy matrimony between their daughter, Dorcas Ojochegbe Joel, and Mr. Daniel Semako.
The church wedding ceremony, which took place at the Government House Chapel, Lokoja, was a colourful celebration that brought together top government functionaries, political leaders, family members, friends, and well-wishers from within and outside the state. The grand event was marked by vibrant decorations, soul-lifting music, and a pervasive atmosphere of joy. Guests later gathered at the K-Galaxy Events Centre in Lokoja for a celebratory reception.
Among the distinguished dignitaries who graced the occasion was the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Sam Ode, who served as the Chairman of the reception ceremony. Other prominent personalities in attendance included the Deputy Majority Leader of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims; the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Nwuchiola Egwaba; the Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, Ph.D; and the APC Kogi East Senatorial Candidate, Dr. Joseph Ameh Erico.
Members of the Kogi State Executive Council, members of the State House of Assembly, government appointees, party leaders, and well-wishers were also present in large numbers.
Speaking at the reception, Governor Ododo warmly congratulated the newly wedded couple and their parents, describing the day as a deeply special and memorable milestone for both families. He counselled the newlyweds to anchor their marriage on the enduring pillars of love, patience, mutual understanding, and deep respect.
The Governor further urged them to accommodate one another, resolve any differences peacefully, and guard their union against unnecessary external interference.
Leveraging the gathering of leaders and citizens, Governor Ododo also called on Nigerians to continuously support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his administration. He emphasized the vital need for national unity, peace, and collective dedication to ongoing efforts aimed at driving overall national development.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the people of Kogi State, assuring them that his government remains fully focused on fulfilling its promises and elevating the living standards of all residents.
Delivering the sermon during the service, the officiating minister, Pastor Henry Asarapo, admonished the couple to prioritize open communication, honesty, and mutual respect throughout their marital journey. He reminded them that the wedding ceremony was merely the beginning of a lifelong commitment and urged them to avoid actions that could undermine the peace of their home.
In his vote of thanks, Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu expressed profound gratitude to Governor Ododo for his steadfast support and presence at the occasion. He similarly extended sincere appreciation to the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr. Sam Ode, along with all government officials, dignitaries, family, and friends who joined the family in celebrating the joyous union.
Comrade Salifu prayed for divine blessings upon everyone who contributed to the event’s success and wished all guests safe travels back to their respective destinations.
