The lawmaker representing Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Umar Yahaya, has visited schools across Omala Local Government Area to distribute additional learning materials and monitor disbursement of his N6 million education empowerment fund.
Yahaya, popularly known as Connect, disclosed the development on Friday, saying the follow-up exercise was aimed at reaching schools excluded from the initial distribution and ensuring financial assistance gets directly to vulnerable students and orphans.

He said the visits formed part of efforts to monitor implementation of the education intervention launched earlier in October.
“I conducted a follow-up tour of some schools in Omala today to release additional educational materials to schools that were not captured in our last education empowerment and to ensure that the cash disbursement of the N6 million earlier released to support vulnerable students and orphans gets to them directly,” Yahaya stated.
Schools covered in the exercise include LGEA Primary School, Echa; Unekwu-Ojo Primary School, Echa; RCM Primary School, Abejukolo; and LGEA Central Primary School, Abejukolo.
Others are Graceland Secondary School, Abejukolo and LGEA Islamiya Primary School.
The visit followed the launch of Yahaya’s N6 million education empowerment scheme, which provides financial assistance to students and learning materials to schools across Omala.
Under the initiative, N5 million was allocated to 100 students selected from public and private schools, with each beneficiary expected to receive N50,000.
The remaining N1 million was reserved for a scholarship to be awarded to the candidate from Omala who obtained the highest score in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The programme also provides notebooks, recommended Mathematics and English textbooks, school bags and other writing materials for schools across the 11 wards of the local government area.
At the initial launch, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, who represented Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo, commended the lawmaker for supporting educational development in the constituency.
Yahaya said the latest visits were intended to expand the reach of the intervention, reduce educational expenses for benefiting families, reward academic performance and improve access to learning materials in Omala schools.
