The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has commended Rector Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime for his leadership and management of resources despite tight finances, its chairman said.
Council Chairman, Sani Shaibu, made the remarks at the council’s 74th regular meeting, held Thursday at the polytechnic’s main campus.
Shaibu said Avidime had performed strongly within a few months in office and praised his prudent handling of the institution’s finances. He also thanked management and staff for supporting the administration.

He said staff morale was important and that continued improvement in staff welfare was essential to productivity and institutional growth.
He urged council members to seek new sources of revenue by forming partnerships with corporate organisations, government agencies and philanthropic individuals.
Shaibu also assured management that the council would continue to push reforms aimed at raising the polytechnic’s academic and general standards.
Earlier in the meeting, Avidime outlined his administration’s plans to improve efficiency, upgrade infrastructure, raise academic standards, expand the institution’s visibility and improve welfare for staff and students.
He said management was targeting areas needing urgent attention and applying practical measures to make the institution more responsive and competitive.
Avidime thanked the council for its guidance and support and asked members to keep directing available funds to high-impact areas, particularly academic standards, accreditation requirements, staff welfare and the student experience.
He pledged to justify the council’s confidence through transparent leadership, careful spending and measurable results.
The meeting also formally introduced the polytechnic’s new principal officers to the council and reviewed reports from statutory committees.
