The United States-based Oduala Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to the continuous recognition and celebration of African geniuses, philanthropists and outstanding leaders across the globe as a catalyst for growth and sustainable development.

The pledge was made by Chief Taiwo Oduala, Founder and Executive Producer of the prestigious Afro Awards, in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Tuesday.

Chief Oduala called on governments at all levels, corporate organisations and well-meaning institutions to deliberately identify and honour their geniuses, credible leaders and philanthropists, stressing that such recognition encourages them to do more for humanity and nation-building.

He said the highly anticipated 5th edition of Afro Awards 2026 has selected the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, as one of its distinguished awardees in recognition of his remarkable achievements, humanitarian services and exceptional leadership as a governor in Nigeria and West Africa.

Describing Gov. Otti as a “distinguished and notable personality,” Oduala noted that his recognition adds a significant leadership and governance dimension to this year’s awards, while also placing Abia State and Nigerian public leadership on the international spotlight.

According to him, the 2026 edition of the Afro Awards is set to host an impressive gathering of distinguished personalities from Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom, and the global entertainment, business, political and cultural communities.

“We believe that the 2026 edition, which celebrates excellence, achievement, leadership, creativity and contributions to society, will further elevate the Afro Awards’ tradition of bringing together influential personalities who have made their marks in different sectors.

“The event will recognise a diverse collection of personalities from entertainment, fashion, sports, business and public service, reflecting the international reach of the Afro Awards.

“This is about bringing Africa and the World together – from political leaders to business executives, entertainers, athletes, filmmakers, fashion personalities and organisations.

“Therefore, the awards will continue to highlight the diverse contributions of people and institutions shaping Africa’s image and influence around the world and on the global stage,” he stated.

Chief Oduala listed some of the past distinguished honorees and personalities of the Afro Awards to include Oumie Garba Fox, Esther Oluwafunmilayo Komolafe, Oumarou Idrissa, Angelica Nwanbu and event host, Shang Forbes.
