The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ogugu State Constituency in the 2027 Kogi State House of Assembly election, Hon. Michael Samuel Idoko, has felicitated with Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, calling for renewed commitment to national unity, peace and sustainable development.

In an Independence Day message issued to mark the anniversary, Idoko described Nigeria as a nation of immense potential whose diversity and resilience remain important elements of its national identity.

According to him, the 66th anniversary provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey since independence while looking ahead with renewed hope and determination.

“At 66, Nigeria remains a land of promise. Our journey has not been without challenges, but the resilience of our people continues to define the Nigerian spirit. Independence Day is therefore not only a celebration of our past, but also an opportunity to renew our collective commitment to a better future,” Idoko said.

The PDP candidate stressed the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, noting that the country’s diversity should remain a source of strength rather than division.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us. Our different ethnic, religious and cultural identities should not prevent us from pursuing the common good. We must continue to build bridges of understanding, promote peaceful coexistence and place the interest of the nation above narrow considerations,” he stated.

Idoko also called for greater attention to human capital development, education, healthcare, youth empowerment, agriculture, infrastructure and opportunities for citizens to participate meaningfully in the nation’s economic growth.

He said sustainable national development requires responsible leadership, accountable institutions and citizens who are willing to contribute positively to their communities.

“The Nigeria we desire will not be built by government alone. It requires the collective effort of leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, young people, women, farmers, workers and every citizen who believes in the possibilities of this country,” he added.

Reflecting on his own constituency, Idoko said the spirit of Independence should also be reflected at the grassroots through inclusive development, access to opportunities and responsive representation.

“For me, Independence is also about ensuring that the people at the grassroots can feel the impact of democracy in their daily lives. Development must reach the communities, villages and families that make up Nigeria,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to the ideals of peace, justice, unity and progress, while commending citizens for their resilience in the face of prevailing challenges.

“As we celebrate Nigeria at 66, let us choose hope over despair, unity over division and progress over stagnation. Our country has enormous possibilities, and with responsible leadership and collective determination, we can continue to build a nation worthy of the sacrifices and aspirations of those who came before us,” Idoko said.

The Ogugu State Constituency PDP candidate concluded by wishing Nigerians a peaceful Independence Anniversary and reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development and public service.

“Happy Independence Day to all Nigerians. May Nigeria continue to grow in peace, prosperity and unity, and may the aspirations of our people for a better country become increasingly attainable,” he said.
