The Kogi State Government has expressed readiness to partner with genuine investors as it received a delegation of the European Union on an investment visit to the state.

The delegation, led by Mr. Massimo De Luca, called on Friday at the Governor’s office in Lokoja, where it was received on behalf of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu.

The EU delegation disclosed interest in investing in water transportation between Lagos-Ikorodu and Ajaokuta in Kogi State, a move it said was designed to ease pressure on Nigeria’s road network by shifting more bulk cargo to the waterways.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Massimo said the project would be driven by SeaLink in collaboration with other local and international financial partners, including the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) and European financial institutions. He added that other major companies could come on board as the project progresses.

The delegation formally requested 50 hectares of land in the state, along with the requisite Certificate of Occupancy, to serve as the company’s operational base.

Responding, the Deputy Governor welcomed the proposed investment and assured the delegation of the state’s readiness to work with credible investors. He explained that the proposal would follow due government process, including review by the Kogi State Economic Council, before a final decision is reached.

Comrade Salifu said he would brief the Governor on the request for land for further consideration, while assuring the delegation that the state government would communicate its official position after necessary consultations.
