The Workplace Security Campaign for Tinubu/Ododo 2027 has commenced in Kogi Central Senatorial District.
Leading the campaign in Okene Local Government Area, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, told workers the initiative was designed to sensitise them on workplace vigilance, security preparedness, and the importance of policy continuity for the workforce.
He urged local government workers across Kogi Central Senatorial District to stay security-conscious and weigh their political choices carefully ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Edoka said the sensitisation drive was necessary to consolidate the achievements of the Tinubu administration at the federal level and the Ododo administration in Kogi State, arguing that the governor had made workers’ welfare central to his government — a record he said justified continued support for Ododo’s re-election.
He credited the Ododo administration with being among the first in the country to implement the current minimum wage, and with subsequently paying above the minimum requirement while ensuring full salary payments to local government workers. He also pointed to the full implementation of hazard allowances for doctors and other health workers, health insurance coverage for workers and pensioners, promotions and the clearing of promotion arrears, leave bonuses, and the recent donation of three buses to organised labour — the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC).
According to Edoka, these interventions had fostered a more conducive working environment and strengthened industrial harmony across the state. He urged workers to resist “politics of mischief” and to base their political decisions on policies that affect their welfare and job security.
“It is important to say that security is a collective responsibility, either in the workplace or beyond. Government is committed to providing the leadership and resources, but cannot do it alone,” Edoka said. “The political will is the foundation of all security progress. Governor Ododo is ready for all-round protection of the people and property. The workers’ job is not an exception.”
He thanked workers for their reception and pledged that concerns raised during the campaign would be given due attention.
Also addressing workers, the Senior Technical Advisor to the Governor on Urban Development, Comrade Chief Godwin Edime, PhD, called for support for the re-election of both Ododo and Tinubu, describing continuity in government as essential to sustaining programmes currently benefiting the workforce.
The Kogi State Council Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Gabriel Amari, said the NLC’s backing for the campaign was rooted in what he called the verifiable achievements of the Ododo administration. He noted that the governor had taken proactive steps for workers’ welfare without waiting for demands from organised labour, and urged continued support for an administration he said had not disappointed workers.
The NULGE Chairman of Okene Local Government, Comrade Yakubu Ishaq, assured the visiting team that local government workers would intensify sensitisation efforts to help achieve the campaign’s objectives.
At Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area, NULGE Chairman, Comrade Alabi Shole, commended Edoka and his team, describing the visit as unprecedented and timely.
The Vice Chairman of Ogori-Magongo Local Government, Mr Williams Also, who received the delegation, described organised labour as a dependable ally in democratic governance and stressed the importance of sustained engagement between labour and government.
Chairmen of other industrial unions and several political appointees also took part in the campaign.
The sensitisation programme was held under the theme: “Workplace Security: Protection, Sensitisation and Preparedness Against Banditry and Kidnapping.”
