HRH Chief Onuche Zico Isaac Idoko, Onu Igala Kabba and Oga Ataa Edee, was formally commissioned into his official palace on Saturday, 29th August 2026, in a colourful ceremony that drew royal fathers, political office holders, business leaders, security chiefs, clergy, and residents from across Kabba, Okunland, and beyond.
The event, described by the traditional ruler as the fulfilment of a long-held dream, was chaired by renowned oil magnate Dr. Ralph Arokoyo, who presided over proceedings despite what organisers described as a demanding schedule.
Government was represented at the highest level, with Comrade Joel Salifu represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Hon. Amos Obetule, who conveyed the goodwill and support of his principal throughout the event.
The occasion also attracted prominent members of the traditional institution, led by His Royal Majesty, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, the Obaro of Oweland, alongside other royal fathers and titled chiefs. The Attah Igala was similarly represented, with one of his senior-ranking chiefs standing in on his behalf, underscoring the cross-cultural significance of the commissioning.
Beyond royalty and government, the commissioning drew support from a wide cross-section of society. Civil society was represented by the Kabba Okun Global Network (KONGONET), while religious leaders, heads of various security agencies, and heads of tertiary institutions in the area were also in attendance. Market women, representatives of other ethnic groups, and Igala sons and daughters resident in Kabba and Okunland turned out in large numbers, alongside members of the press who covered the event.
In a formal note of appreciation issued after the event, HRH Chief Idoko thanked all who attended and contributed to its success, describing the turnout and support as a demonstration of love, honour, and solidarity that added significantly to the occasion.
He singled out Hon. Amos Obetule for commendation on behalf of Comrade Joel Salifu, and expressed appreciation to His Royal Majesty Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi and other royal fathers for what he termed their fatherly role throughout the process leading up to and including the commissioning.
The monarch also extended special thanks to Dr. Ralph Arokoyo for chairing the event and for his continued encouragement and support, describing him as a dear brother and friend.
Extending his gratitude further, HRH Chief Idoko acknowledged the collective contribution of civil society groups, religious and security leaders, academic institution heads, market women, and community members, noting that their support would not be taken for granted.
The commissioning marks a significant milestone in the reign of HRH Chief Onuche Zico Isaac Idoko as Onu Igala Kabba, cementing ties between the traditional institution and the wider Kabba and Okun community, as well as reinforcing relationships with neighbouring royal houses and political stakeholders in the region.
