The Board of Trustees of the Forum of Igala Journalists (FORIJA) has approved the constitution of a Caretaker Committee to superintend the affairs of the association pending the conduct of fresh elections.
The decision followed extensive consultations and a meeting of select stakeholders, where members reached unanimous agreement on the need for an interim leadership structure to revive the association, strengthen its internal systems, reconnect with members, and lay the groundwork for a credible and transparent electoral process.
This was made known in an announcemen signed by Elder Reuben Okala, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Forum of Igala Journalists (FORIJA).
In line with the resolution, the Board named four officers to steer the affairs of FORIJA for a one-year tenure: Eneojo Herbert Idakwo — Acting President, Juliet Akoje — Vice President, Yusuf Akogu — Secretary General and Hass Akodih Emmanuel — Mobilization Officer/Public Relations Officer
The newly constituted committee has been directed to begin work immediately on revitalising the association. Its responsibilities include fostering unity among members, expanding the association’s membership base, reviewing FORIJA’s operational framework where necessary, engaging relevant stakeholders, and organising a free, fair, and credible election at the end of its one-year mandate.
According to the Board, the calibre, experience, and commitment demonstrated by the appointed officers position them to provide the leadership needed to restore FORIJA’s relevance. The Board expressed optimism that the committee’s work would reposition the association as a respected professional body committed to excellence in journalism and to the development of Igala land.
The Board has called on all FORIJA members, media professionals of Igala extraction, and other stakeholders to extend their full cooperation and support to the Caretaker Committee as it begins this assignment.
It reaffirmed its commitment to seeing FORIJA emerge as a united, vibrant, and professionally driven association — one that protects the interests of its members while advancing responsible journalism and contributing to the development of the Igala nation.
