- Describes Appointment and elevation as “Master Stroke” That Has Sealed Opposition in Kabba Bunu
Stakeholders and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area have expressed deep gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, over the appointment of Rt. Hon. Prince Mathew Kolawole, former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, as Senior Technical Advisor to the Governor on Legislative Matters.
The commendation was made on Tuesday during a press conference held at the Kogi State NUJ Secretariat in Lokoja, where leaders of the party in Kabba Bunu addressed a cross-section of journalists.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Michael Obaniwon David described the appointment as timely, strategic, and a clear demonstration of the Governor’s political wisdom.
“Your Excellency, this appointment is a master stroke. You have sealed the coffin of the opposition political parties in Kabba Bunu LGA,” Obaniwon declared.
He noted that Prince Kolawole remains one of the soul of the APC in Kabba and one of the major movers and shakers of the politics of Kabba Bunu, stressing that the appointment could not have come at a better time.
“Your Excellency, by this appointment, except for the nay-sayers who will never see the good of Kogi State and Kabba Bunu LGA, it is clear that you have chosen capacity over noise. We can assure you that the people in this room are the movers and shakers of Kabba Bunu LGA. This appointment has finally sealed all forms of disunity in Kabba Bunu because Prince Kolawole has all it takes to unify factions irrespective of political divide, religion and ethnic divide,” he added.
The stakeholders further assured Governor Ododo that the people of Kabba Bunu are solidly behind him and that the appointment will translate into unprecedented votes for the APC in the forthcoming general elections.
“We are most grateful for this appointment. You have done well and be rest assured that you have done the best thing politically in Kabba Bunu LGA. You will reap the benefits through unprecedented votes and total loyalty from our people,” Obaniwon said.
The group used the opportunity to highlight the sterling qualities of Prince Mathew Kolawole, describing him as one of the most outstanding Speakers the Kogi State House of Assembly has ever produced.
According to them, under his leadership the House was stable, united and highly productive. They noted that the legislative accomplishments recorded during his tenure, in partnership with the outstanding leadership of former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, remain unequalled in the history of the State Assembly.
They noted that despite his being out of office, Prince Kolawole still impact the people with his regular intervention across Kabba Bunu Ijumu Federal Constituency, a feat yet unequal, described the elevation as a reward for past deeds and one that will propel the former Speaker to do more ahead and during the forthcoming general election.
“Prince Kolawole is a man who believes absolutely in the leadership of Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello. He is a loyal party man who does not bite the finger that feeds him. His loyalty is total, his commitment is unwavering, and his respect for constituted authority is legendary,” the group stated.
They described Prince Kolawole as a bridge-builder, a grassroots mobilizer, and a statesman whose door is open to all irrespective of party, religion or ethnicity. His tenure as Speaker, they said, was marked by maturity, inclusiveness, and a deep understanding of legislative processes that helped stabilize governance in the state.
“Prince Kolawole is humble yet firm. He is accessible to the young and the old. He is a man of peace who detests rancor. He has the capacity to manage people and the courage to stand for what is right. These are the qualities that made him excel as Speaker and these are the same qualities he will bring to bear in his new assignment,” the APC leaders added.
The group further described the Governor’s choice as “Solomonic,” saying it carries the blessing of all the people of Kabba Bunu LGA irrespective of divide.
“By this appointment, Governor Ododo has shown that he listens to the people. He has rewarded loyalty, competence and experience. The people of Kabba Bunu are most grateful. We pledge our total support and we will mobilize massively to ensure that the dividends of this appointment are seen in votes and in peace across Kabba Bunu,” they concluded.
The press conference ended with prayers and solidarity songs for Governor Ododo, Prince Kolawole, and the continued unity and progress of Kabba Bunu LGA and Kogi State.
