As a Political Activist and Youths Advocate, I, Edison Atumeyi Edime, wish to publicly commend the Vice Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, Professor Usman Ogbo, for his remarkable leadership, courage, and commitment to restoring the glory, dignity, and academic excellence of the institution.
In a relatively short period in office, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo has demonstrated that purposeful leadership, when driven by vision, integrity, discipline, and genuine commitment to service, can produce meaningful transformation. His administration has taken bold steps toward repositioning the university and strengthening the environment in which students can learn, grow, and pursue their dreams.
One area that deserves particular recognition is his approach to security and campus safety. By confronting security challenges and taking a firm stance against cultism and other forms of misconduct, the university leadership has sent a clear and powerful message: PAAU must remain a place of learning, character formation, innovation, and opportunity—not a breeding ground for violence, criminality, or destructive tendencies.
This is not only commendable; it is a necessary foundation for sustainable development. A university cannot achieve its full potential when students and staff live in fear or when criminal elements threaten the peace of the academic community. The courage to confront these challenges deserves recognition and encouragement.
As a youth advocate, I also wish to use this opportunity to call on the students of PAAU and, indeed, all young people across Kogi State to reject cultism, violence, drug abuse, criminality, and every other act capable of destroying their future. The youth are not the leaders of tomorrow alone; we are stakeholders in the Nigeria of today. Our choices, character, discipline, and determination will shape the society we inherit.
To every student and young person: Do not allow peer pressure to steal your destiny. Do not exchange your future for temporary pleasure or false recognition. Choose education. Choose integrity. Choose hard work. Choose peace. Choose a life that will make your family and community proud.
I therefore commend Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo for the progress recorded so far and encourage him not to rest on his achievements. There is still much work to be done. I urge him to continue building on these foundations, strengthen the security architecture of the university, promote academic excellence, support innovation and entrepreneurship, encourage student development, and create an environment where every student can aspire to greatness.
Leadership is a journey, and the true measure of leadership is not only what has been achieved, but also the willingness to do more for the people one serves. I believe that with sustained commitment, transparency, accountability, and inclusive leadership, PAAU can rise to even greater heights and reclaim its rightful place among leading institutions of higher learning.
Professor Usman Ogbo, the work has begun, the results are visible, and the expectations are high. Keep pushing. Keep building. Keep transforming. There is still more to be done.
To the students and youths of Kogi State, I say: Let us be agents of positive change. Let us reject every path that leads to destruction and embrace the values that build individuals, institutions, and nations. Our future is too precious to be sacrificed to cultism, violence, and criminality.
As a Political Activist and Youths Advocate, I will continue to use my voice to promote responsible leadership, youth empowerment, peace, education, and the development of our society.
