  • Says Forward Operating Base project is 80% completed, vows accelerated efforts to strengthen security across Kabba-Bunu and Ijumu communities.

The Member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Arch Salman Idris, has reassured residents of his unwavering commitment to the completion of the Military Forward Operating Base (FOB) project he facilitated, describing the initiative as a critical component in the fight against insecurity in the constituency.

The lawmaker made the assurance in the wake of the unfortunate bandit attack on Iluke Community in Bunu District of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, an incident that has sparked renewed concerns over security and intensified calls for the speedy completion of the military facility.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Hon. Idris disclosed that he had received numerous calls and observed widespread reactions on social media from concerned constituents seeking updates on the project, which is expected to enhance military presence and improve rapid response to security threats in the area.

“Following the unfortunate attack on Iluke by bandits yesterday, I have received numerous calls and have also come across several comments on social media regarding the timely completion of the Military Forward Operating Base project that I facilitated,” he stated.

The federal lawmaker emphasized that despite challenges associated with funding capital projects at the federal level, he remains resolute in ensuring the project is completed without further delay.

According to him, inadequate releases of funds by the Federal Government have slowed progress on several infrastructural projects nationwide, including the FOB initiative. However, he noted that the strategic importance of the project compelled him to seek alternative funding channels rather than wait indefinitely for government disbursements.

“I want to assure everyone that I remain fully committed to seeing this important project through to completion. Given the strategic importance of the FOB project and the high priority I have placed on it, alongside other critical constituency needs, I took the bold decision to explore alternative sources of funding, including personal intervention,” he said.

Providing an update on the project’s status, Hon. Idris revealed that construction work has reached approximately 80 percent completion, expressing optimism that the facility would be fully delivered within the coming weeks.

The lawmaker thanked constituents for their patience, understanding and continued support, stressing that the protection of lives and property remains his foremost concern.

“The safety and security of our people remain paramount, and I will continue to do everything within my capacity to ensure that this vital project is delivered without further delay,” he assured.

His renewed commitment comes at a time when residents of Iluke and surrounding communities are demanding stronger security measures following the recent attack, which has once again underscored the urgent need for enhanced military infrastructure and sustained efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities across the constituency.

Observers believe the completion of the Forward Operating Base will significantly bolster security operations in the area, improve intelligence gathering, and provide security agencies with a strategic platform to respond swiftly to emerging threats.
