In a clime where the female gender is perceived to be at a disadvantaged ebb, and often time relegated to the kitchen or better still, subdued in the ‘oza room’, a youthful entrepreneur, beautician and philanthropist of immense reputation has taken the bold step of venturing into the murky waters of politics.
As 2027 election fever gathers momentum, she is not only adding up to the number of aspirants ~ she is determined to make a resounding statement on the political stage.
For her, gone are the days when women fizzle out by threat and intimidation, she is raring to go and conquer her world!
Olonikadi Motunrayo Idowu, aka “MJ”, an household name that needs no introduction in Kabba-Bunu and its environs have thrown her hat into the ring for the highly revered Kabba – Bunu State Constituency election, under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the time past and outside politics, the highly versatile, delectable and industrious “MJ” had often advocated for rights and protections for the most vulnerable members of the society.
Thus, she is immensely thankful for her foray into politics structured to creating an avenue to ameliorate the wrongs of the past against women in politics and thereby, creating a future where women have more freedom and occupy seats that had often times designated for the opposite gender.
In an interactive interview with the media in her spacious Kabba office, MJ urged Nigerians to give women a chance at leadership and governance.
“All my life, I have always seen men contest and get elected to political offices. So this year, I said to myself, let me contest to first give women a direction and secondly, show people what a woman can do,” she said.
Many political juggernaut have envisaged Olonikadi’s political involvement as a gentle reminder to every woman and young adult that no dream is out of reach as long as you are focused, committed and determined to make a substantial difference in the body polity of the Nation.
So, MJ’s stories can’t be different ~ resilience, leadership at its finest, and history making.
Over a long period of time, the Executive Director, MJ & PJ Global Ventures has been enthusiastic and compassionate about philanthropist works in her native town of Kabba, and has continued to support youth and women empowerment initiatives through her foundation.
Before delving into politics, she had already been active in education support and social advocacy, encouraging women to become more involved in governance and public life.
With all her contributions towards the complete emancipation of womenfolk from the status of being perpetually labelled as a weaker vessel, it is the time to vote enmasse for her as the next House of Assembly member representing Kabba-Bunu State Constituency.
By so doing, she will continue not from where she had stopped but consolidate on the gains.
