Ododo’s Nepotism Goes Beyond Clan

The appointment style of Governor Ododo clearly demonstrates a level of nepotism that goes far beyond ordinary clan loyalty. Unlike former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who largely did not allow clannish sentiments to dictate his governance, Ododo has shown a distinct pattern of favoritism toward his sub-clan.

For instance:

The Ohi of Okengwe was appointed from Ododo’s sub-clan, not just from the larger Akuta clan, even though the Ohi of Okene himself also belongs to the Akuta clan.

The Kogi State University Rector, the APC State Party Chairman, and almost every top official—ranging from SSAs, Special Advisers, to key commissioners—are drawn almost exclusively from his sub-clan, many of whom had not played any significant role in his election campaign.

Let us carefully observe his next appointments to further confirm this pattern of nepotism.

In contrast, Alhaji Yahaya Bello demonstrated that governance could rise above clannish considerations. He appointed competent individuals from various backgrounds, without restricting opportunities to his immediate clan or sub-clan.

To the great people of Adavi, I salute you and call your attention to what has just transpired:

The Governor did not trust anyone from Adavi to hold the position of State APC Chairman, choosing instead someone from his sub-clan (Akuta).

Currently, key positions are dominated by individuals from Okene:

Governor – Okene
Chief of Staff – Okene
Accountant General – Okene
SUBEB Chairman – Okene
State Attorney General – Okene
Two commissioners – Okene
Amir Hajj – Okene
DG Government House – Okene

Where is Adavi’s representation in this government? The only notable exception appears to be the former party chairman from Adavi, who seems to be considered trustworthy.

Now, there are plans to position Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s loyalists from Okene as APC flag bearers come 2027.

Dear good people of Adavi, Okehi, Ajaokuta, and Ogori-Magongo:

Stand firmly with any candidate who contested alongside Yahaya Bello during the APC Option A4 forthcoming primary. We particularly call on former House of Representatives members Hon. AK Salihu and veteran politician Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro-Dua from Okehi not to step down. The National Secretariat of the party will oversee the primary, and while they have state money, they do not have God on their side.

Adavi, Okehi, and Ajaokuta have been sidelined politically. Under Governor Ododo’s administration, government appointments have become essentially a sub-clan family affair. Meanwhile, we have a vibrant incumbent senator poised to flag off PDP ticket. If APC ticket is not zoned to Okehi, the party risks losing credibility and may face defeat in the upcoming gubernatorial elections.
