The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has approved the appointment of sports media expert Samuel Ahmadu as Special Assistant on Media.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Commission’s strategic communication framework, enhance public engagement, and ensure effective dissemination of information on the FCC’s mandate, policies, and activities.
In his new role, Ahmadu, a three-time Nigeria Pitch Awards Football Journalist of the Year, will provide media and communications support to the Executive Chairman and the Commission. His responsibilities include coordinating press relations, overseeing digital communication platforms, managing media coverage of official engagements, developing strategic communication initiatives, and ensuring accurate and timely information flow to stakeholders and the general public.
Ahmadu brings nearly two decades of professional experience in journalism, public relations, and strategic communications across national and international platforms. He is a former African correspondent for Goal.com and currently serves as Managing Editor of SavidNews and the Nigeria Football Newspaper, where he has led editorial operations and coverage of major international sporting events. He has also contributed to coverage of Nigeria’s 2011 and 2015 general elections and freelanced for several international sports and media organisations.
He currently serves as Media Director of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and previously worked with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Women’s Football Development Committee under the chairmanship of Hon. Omidiran. Since 2019, he has served as a Media Consultant and Media Officer to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), contributing to media strategy and tournament communications at the continental level.
Ahmadu is also the current Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Federal Capital Territory Chapter.
Reacting to his appointment, Ahmadu said: “I am deeply honoured by the confidence reposed in me by Honorable Omidiran. I am committed to deploying my professional experience to support effective, transparent, and proactive communication that will strengthen public trust and promote the mandate of the Federal Character Commission.”
Ahmadu has since assumed duty and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the Commission’s objectives in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
