The Executive Chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area and Chairman of the Kogi State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Tosin Olokun, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent tragic incidents that claimed the lives of innocent citizens within the Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Yagba West Local Government Council, Adeyemi Babarinde Sunday, the Chairman extended heartfelt condolences to the families of Late Joseph Jones, an indigene of Odo Ere community who was killed on Saturday, 21 February 2026, while picking cashew nuts along Saminaka Road axis in Odo Eri, and Pastor Gideon Etsu, who lost his life on Sunday, 22 February 2026, in his cashew farm in Ejiba along Omi Road.
Hon. Olokun condoled with the bereaved families and prayed for divine comfort, strength, and fortitude for all those affected by these painful and unfortunate incidents.
In view of the prevailing security concerns, the Chairman strongly advised all cashew farmers and other agricultural operators to avoid accessing farms, particularly in remote or isolated areas, without adequate security presence.
This precautionary directive, he explained, is aimed at safeguarding lives and minimizing exposure to criminal threats.
The Council urged strict compliance in the interest of personal and community safety.
Hon. Olokun further directed that charcoal workers and other individuals whose activities necessitate deep forest access should immediately suspend such operations until further notice.
“Ongoing security operations and the current risk environment require heightened caution, as unauthorized or unnecessary movement within forested areas may pose serious dangers,” he said.
The Chairman reassured the people of Yagba West that the Local Government Council, in close collaboration with relevant security agencies, is intensifying efforts to address the security situation, enhance surveillance, and protect lives and property.
Residents are encouraged to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security operatives, while promptly reporting any suspicious persons or activities to the appropriate authorities.
