His Royal Highness, Abubakar Ahmed Yakubu II, the Ejeh of Ankpa conferred a highly esteemed chieftaincy title on eminent legal luminary and philanthropist, Dr. Ogwu James Onoja, SAN.
Chief Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, was honoured with the title “Agbene Ejeh Ankpa,” meaning “The Saviour of Ejeh Ankpa,” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to humanity, community development, and steady commitment to the progress of Ankpa land and Kogi State at large.
The conferment comes against the backdrop of public commentary in some quarters concerning the multiple honours and awards received by the Senior Advocate of Nigeria over the years. Speaking shortly after the ceremony, he described the recognition by the Ankpa traditional institution as deeply humbling and symbolic.
“For those embittered and those who have made issues out of my many awards and titles, His Royal Majesty, the Ejeh of Ankpa, has now deemed me worthy of this sacred chieftaincy title,” he said.
Expressing heartfelt appreciation to the monarch and the Ankpa Traditional Council, the legal icon emphasized that the honour represents a renewed call to selfless service.
“I am very grateful for this great honour. I will continue to do all I can to keep serving the cause of humanity and to justify the confidence reposed in me,” Chief Onoja stated.
He also offered prayers for the continued reign of the Ankpa monarch.
“Agagwu! May Your Royal Majesty last long on the throne. May God grant you wisdom, strength, and long life,” he added.
The title Agbene Ejeh Ankpa is regarded as one of the most prestigious honours within the Ankpa traditional hierarchy, reserved for individuals whose impact and service stand as pillars of hope and progress for the people.
