…Insists on Speaker, Aguye Re – election
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lokoja II, Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for a second term.
This was the resolution reached through a voice vote at the end of a meeting of stakeholders on Friday.
The meeting which was under the leadership of the Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, attracted all elected office holders from the area, including Ward Chairmen and their leaders, Ward Councilors and former office holders, among other interest groups.
The Speaker had told the congregation that their major focus, which the people should take with all seriousness, is the re – election of President Tinubu and Governor Ododo for another term in view of their efforts towards addressing the developmental challenges the area faces.
The Speaker noted that the concerted efforts of Governor Ododo was responsible for the continued peace and security being enjoyed in the rural areas of Lokoja Local Government which constitutes Lokoja II, the constituency he represents in the State House of Assembly.
Rt. Hon. Umar stressed that the Governor has invested hugely in the provision of tools for security officers, Forest Guards and Hunters, as well as traditional rulers to ensure they ward off the incursion of criminals into communities of Lokoja II, and thanked him for understanding that agriculture remains the mainstay of the economy of the area.
He said the Forward Operational Base in the area has helped in nipping many security threats pouring into the area from the core northern Nigeria where criminals are facing a lot of bombardment which has resulted in them running south through forests of Kogi and Kwara States.
“If not for the efforts of the Governor, the farmers in our various communities would not have been able to record the bumper harvest they recorded in the last harvest season. Our farmers are experiencing peace because of the deliberate efforts of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and we must continue to thank him for that and reciprocate by ensuring we vote massively for the APC in the coming elections.”
The Speaker assured the people that the mandate they had given all their elected representatives are not in vain as the office holders are doing their best to improve their infrastructure, particularly rural roads, which he said the Governor is making deliberate efforts towards addressing.
He also mentioned the efforts he has continued to make in the areas of improved healthcare facilities, education and empowerment, stating that he has taken it upon himself to sponsor several young people in all the tertiary institutions of the state to study and become Community Health Extension Workers and other health related disciplines.
In the same vein, several others are also being encouraged to study Education – related courses in various higher institutions to enable communities have people that can man the new primary and secondary schools being built.
Once they complete their studies, those with certificates in the health discipline are expected to become health workers in the new primary healthcare facilities being built.
Earlier in their separate addresses, the member representing Lokoja/Kogi Kotonkarfe Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Danladi Suleiman Aguye and the Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu had told the people of the efforts they are making in various sectors, with Hon Aguye mentioning his efforts in the provision of employment and improving infrastructure of Lokoja/Kogi Kotonkarfe.
Comrade Abdullahi Adamu stressed that he has been complementing the efforts of Governor Ododo, who he described as a leader with passion for the protection of lives and property in the face of daunting security challenges.
During interaction with the stakeholders, they insisted that the Speaker should recontest for the current position he occupies as the member representing them in the State House of Assembly in view of their relentless call for him to agree to their request.
They also agree to support Hon. Danladi Suleiman Aguye for a second term, with their voice votes recording overwhelming ‘aye’ to that request.
