The Ziggy Motel Event Centre Okene was last weekend a beehive of festive activities as Igbos from across the five local government areas of Kogi Central senatorial district converged to mark her annual end of year get together.
In his welcome address at the occasion, the President General of the Association of Igbo community in Ebira land, Chief Joseph Anikwe, while expressing happiness over the large turnout of members and guests, thanked God for his mercies and the wellbeing of members, despite the harsh economic situation.
Chief Joseph Anikwe then commended Kogi state governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for providing good leadership, especially in the area of peace and security, which he said has ensured enabling environment for business to thrive in the state.
He then called on the citizens to complement the efforts of government in the area of security by being vigilante, especially this period of banditry, kidnappings and armed robberies.
While reflecting on the activities of the association, the Igbo leader urged members of the community to beware of the negative and divisive activities of few non-registered members of the Association, who are envious of the rising profile of the association, hence their desperate and infamous moves to peddle lies/rumours against the Association in a bid to pull down the association.
The Igbo President, who described the perpetrators as ignorant and misguided, reminded them that the association is duly registered and cannot be stopped from operation through peddling of lies.
In his brief remarks, the chairman of the occasion Sir, Amechi Obiechina Ogbechi, while congratulating members of the occasion for witnessing the end of year get-together, expressed confidence in the leadership of the association under Chief Joseph Anikwe.
Also speaking, a special guest at the occasion, H.R.H Nkemedili Dilibe expressed happiness with the existing cordial relationship between the Igbos in the area and their host communities.
The traditional ruler also commended the President General of the association, Chief Joseph Anikwe, for his purposeful leadership.
The end of year get-together featured merriment, cultural dances/competition.
Participants who emerged victories at the dancing competition went home with various prices such as deep freezer, washing machine, standing fan, cooking utensils and other consolation prices
